Message from the Commish...

It’s been a busy and memorable summer in Williamson County. I had the privilege of attending six ice cream suppers across our rural communities, where I met many long-time residents. Listening to their stories of days gone by—and their hopes for what Williamson County will look like 5, 10, and even 50 years from now—was truly inspiring. I hope this summer tradition continues for generations to come.
I also hope you had a chance to visit the Williamson County Fair this past week. Our fair has become one of the most successful in the state, and for good reason—it’s a tradition filled with family fun, community pride, and memories in the making. I’ve been honored to volunteer for the past three years, and it’s always a joy to see the smiling faces of friends and neighbors.

To all the families who kicked off a new school year last week—congratulations, you survived the summer! And to the parents sending kids off to college or into life beyond high school—congratulations to you as well. You are watching years of hard work and guidance turn into a new season of independence and growth.
This summer also brought big news: Williamson County Mayor Rogers Anderson announced he will not seek reelection. I’m grateful for his 40 years of dedicated service to our county, and I look forward to the opportunities this next chapter in our local government will bring.

As a reminder, due to the Fair, there is no County Commission meeting. Our next regularly scheduled meeting will be on September 8th at 6:00pm at the Williamson County Admin Building.

? Growth Is Coming—Let’s Grow Wisely
As I mentioned in my last newsletter, several development proposals in the county and surrounding municipalities are raising concerns among nearby residents, including:
Harlin Property – Request for annexation, with proposed changes to Hillview Lane
Owen Hill Rd Project - Currently in preliminary discussions
In addition to these projects, concerns have also been raised about the capacity of sewer systems—both private systems in unincorporated areas and municipal systems handling additional growth:
According to a 2024 TDEC report, 26% of the 360 sewer systems in Tennessee that use drip fields showed “notable performance issues.”
As more people move to Middle Tennessee, we’re beginning to feel the strain: heavier traffic, more accidents, overcrowded schools, and other impacts on public safety. Maury County is currently reassessing its zoning ordinances for their unincorporated areas. In the last legislative session, there was also a proposal to create regional planning commissions—an idea worth revisiting.
So, how do we work together—across the county, region, and state—to better manage growth and reduce potential negative impacts? While I don’t claim to have all the answers, I do know this: we must be willing to have open, honest conversations and adjust our approach to protect already strained resources, while respecting individual property rights. We need solutions that provide much-needed services but also preserves the quality of life and natural beauty that brought so many of us to this special part of Tennessee to begin with.
