PRIMARY SEASON IS HERE!!

Just in case you haven't noticed the signs popping up across the county, there are several elections quickly coming your way.

EARLY VOTING - February 14th through February 27th
ELECTION DAY - March 5th
These upcoming elections are incredibly important to the future of our county. As I had stated in my previous newsletter, the newly elected sheriff will not only need to focus on recruiting and retaining highly qualified law enforcement officers, but he will also be overseeing the largest capital project this county has ever undertaken, currently estimated to be $325 million. The school board oversees 65% of the county budget ($517 million) and is entrusted for supporting the policies, teacher and staff needed to provide a quality education to our children.

The County Commission is responsible for appointing a Sheriff within 120 days from the day the office became vacant, there is no need for us to act on this appointment at the February meeting. With the Primary election coming on March 5th, I believe it is best to let the voters decide who they want to lead our county law enforcement department. So, please, be sure to get out and vote, this will be your only chance to have your voice heard in this election as there are no opponents in the General Election.

Other Important Issues:
  • 5G Cell Tower Update
  • Election Integrity
    • The Williamson County Election Commission has identified a vendor for the Hand Marked Paper Ballot study. Elections Group has submitted a quote for $100,000 to perform the study on if hand marked ballots are feasible in Williamson County. While I was not initially in support of funding the study, if we are going to bring in a third party to assess Williamson County, I would like to see us select a truly nonpartisan group. I'm not 100% confident that this organization would qualify.
  • Planning & Zoning
    • On February 15th, there will be an Open House to discuss the future of the Arrington Special Area Plan. This event will be held at Arrington Elementary School, 6280 Cox Rd., from 6:30pm to 7:30pm.
