THERE IS A NEW SHERIFF IN TOWN!!

The Primary Elections have concluded and there were a few surprises this time around. For County Sheriff and Circuit Court Judge Division III 21st Judicial District, the winners were:
  • Sheriff-Elect, Jeff Hughes
    • The County Commission is required to appoint an interim Sheriff until the general is concluded in August. With Jeff Hughes being the only candidate on the ballot, it would be appropriate to move forward with his appointment.
  • Judicial Candidate, David Veille
    • Judge Erin Nations will continue to serve as judge until the General Election in August, at which time David Veille (running unopposed) will take over at this seat.

On a personal note, running a campaign isn't easy, even at the local level. It takes a lot of hard work, not only on the part of the candidates and their families but all of the people contributing their time and money in hopes that their candidate prevails. If you have the opportunity, please express your gratitude and appreciation to all of our candidates and their families. We had some amazing people step up for the opportunity to serve our county. As our county continues to grow, I hope we continue to see involvement in our local elections also continue to grow. With a little less than 20% voting in this election, we need to continue to spread the word to encourage our friends and neighbors to get to know their candidates and get out and vote. If you did make it to the polls, THANK YOU!! EVERY VOTE MATTERS!!

OTHER HIGHLIGHTS:
  • The vote on the hand marked paper ballot study is on the agenda. The commission had voted to defer this to see if there may be an alternative to spending the $100,000 with an out of state company that supposedly had questionable ties to partisan groups.
  • The Arrington Special Area Plan Advisory Committee met with citizens on February 15th at Arrington Elementary School to discuss the process for gathering community input into this area at 96 and Cox Rd. The next meeting is scheduled for March 27 at Arrington Elementary. More details can be found here.
  • The Property Committee will be holding its next meeting at the Primus Building located 9009 Carothers Parkway to begin discussions around utilizing existing commercial space over building new as a way to curb costs to the taxpayer and possibly begin to eliminate our $1.2 billion in debt.
  • 5G Update - Williamson County Schools have now been removed from the list of tower locations on Vogue Towers website. The remainder of county properties still remain as we continue to find ways to find a sensible way to increase our telecommunications services without taking unnecessary risks, dramatically changing the landscape of our rural areas or decreasing the values of our homes.
  • BUDGET SEASON IS HERE! As we continue to find ways to keep property taxes low while covering the increase in operational expenses and capital needs, it is imperative that citizens stay engaged in this process. We should all feel confident that tax dollars are being spent to effectively support the essential services and people we all rely on.
    • The school budget is approximately 68% of our overall budget. Debt Service is another 10% of the budget. This leaves approximately 22% of the budget for the remainder of county services including law enforcement, public safety/emergency services, roads, parks and animal control.
