NOTABLE ITEMS

June County Commissioner Meeting

·        35 Resolutions were brought to the Commission, all 35 PASSED (see list below)

Public Safety

·        As part of the budget meeting, the Commission will have the ability to double the funds contributed to Arrington Volunteer Fire Department to approximately $88k along with providing funds to cover additional operational costs in an effort to lessen the burden on our volunteers for fundraising and focus more on their first responder duties.

Election Integrity

·        After resolution 5-23-27 to purchase ES&S voting machines failed, the WCEC brought forth resolution 6-23-28 to request the same appropriation with the addition of a study on the feasibility of utilizing hand-marked ballots in our elections.  We had approximately 30 people speak during public comment, most against the machines, including several cybersecurity experts.  Although there seems to be a consensus that these machines are not infallible, there doesn’t seem to be many alternative technologies that meet the security standards prescribed by the EAC.

·        As I stated last month, I will continue to work with the Election Commission to find the most secure way to ensure access for all Williamson County voters and that every vote is accurately accounted for.

Other Items

·        In-N-Out Burger has chosen Franklin as the new home of their regional headquarters.  According to the information provided to the commission, there will be 277 jobs created with an average income of $91k.  Although, I am happy to see companies such as In-N-Out Burger come to the area, I do not believe we need to be incentivizing through tax abatements.  Unfortunately, there were only 6 commissioners who were against resolution 6-23-29.
