Meet Mary Smith

Mary Smith - Tested.Proven. Ready on Day One.

As a current County Commissioner with decades of private-sector leadership experience, Mary brings the judgment, discipline, and real-world experience to lead from the start — not learn on the job.

She is running for County Mayor to put people first, protect taxpayers, guide responsible growth, and preserve what makes Williamson County special.

Current County Commissioner Small Business Owner Corporate Leadership
The Challenge

Williamson County is at a turning point.

Traffic is stealing time from families. Rising costs are squeezing household budgets. Growth is changing the character of our community. The question is not whether Williamson County will grow. The question is whether we lead that growth responsibly.

Traffic

Families need infrastructure planning that keeps roads moving and communities connected.

Rising Costs

Taxpayers deserve disciplined budgeting and long-term decisions that protect their wallets.

Community Character

Growth should strengthen Williamson County, not erase the charm and values people love.

Proven experience.Principled leadership.

For more than 20 years, Wade and I have called Williamson County home. Our family has lived here, worked here, worshiped here, and built our life here.

Before serving in county government, Mary spent decades in the private sector overseeing complex challenges, managing multi-million-dollar budgets, and leading high-performing teams.

Today, as a County Commissioner, she is already doing the work — bringing that same discipline, accountability, and people-first mindset to local government.

Priorities

Mary’s priorities for Williamson County.

These priorities reflect the values that brought many of us to Williamson County — responsible leadership, thoughtful growth, and a commitment to the people who call this place home.

Fiscal Stewardship

Keep the Charm without Selling the Farm

Protect Williamson County’s character through smart financial decisions, disciplined debt management, and long-term stewardship that respects taxpayers.

Let’s shape growth — together.

I do not want the title. I want the responsibility — to listen, bring people together, and present smart, data-driven plans that protect both our quality of life and your wallet.

🇺🇸 Happy 250 America! 🇺🇸After spending the past week at Mount Vernon and walking among the monuments and memorials of our nation’s capital, I came away with an even deeper appreciation for what our Founding Fathers sought to accomplish. They were pursuing something far greater than wealth, fame, or power. They risked everything to establish a nation where liberty and freedom could flourish. As we celebrate 250 years of a nation born in liberty, may this Independence Day remind us of the timeless principles upon which America was founded. Our founders recognized that our rights come from our Creator, not from government, and they established a Constitution designed to protect those God-given liberties for generations to come.George Washington wrote:“The power under the Constitution will always be in the people. It is entrusted for certain defined purposes, and for a certain limited period, to representatives of their own choosing; and whenever it is executed contrary to their interest, or not agreeable to their wishes, their servants can, and undoubtedly will be, recalled.”The freedoms we enjoy today were secured through extraordinary sacrifice and entrusted to each generation to preserve. May we never take that responsibility lightly. If we remain faithful to the enduring principles that shaped this nation, future generations will continue to experience the blessings of liberty that have made America a beacon of hope for 250 years.Today, let us celebrate with gratitude, reflect with humility, and look to the future with hope.Wishing you and your family a joyful, meaningful, and safe Fourth of July.God bless America.❤️🙏🇺🇸🙏💙 ... 🇺🇸 Freedom. Liberty. Responsibility. 🇺🇸Walking the halls of our nation’s Capitol, I was reminded that the principles inscribed on these walls still ring true today. They are more than historical quotes—they are reminders of the responsibility passed down from those who came before us.“Freedom of Thought and the Right of Private Judgment in Matters of Conscience direct their course to this happy country.”— Samuel Adams, 1776“Enlighten the People generally, and Tyranny and Oppressions of Body and Mind will vanish like Evil Spirits at the Dawn of Day.”— Thomas Jefferson, 1816“The Nation behaves well if it treats the Natural Resources as Assets which it must turn over to the next Generation increased and not impaired in value.”— Theodore Roosevelt, 1910Freedom isn’t inherited automatically. It is preserved by informed citizens who value liberty, seek truth, and understand that each generation has a responsibility to leave our nation stronger than it was entrusted to us.🇺🇸 God bless America. Happy Independence Day!#Freedom #Liberty #WeThePeople #AmericanValues #IndependenceDay ... See MoreSee Less

“Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” — James 4:7Every day, we face choices that test our faith, our character, and our resolve. This verse reminds us that true strength doesn’t begin with striving harder, it begins with surrendering our hearts to God.When we submit to His will, stand firmly in His truth, and resist temptation, God promises that the enemy will flee. Victory isn’t found in our own strength, but in trusting the One who has already overcome the world.Whatever you’re facing today, choose faith over fear, truth over compromise, and obedience over convenience. God is faithful, and He will give you the strength to stand.#James47 #Faith #TrustGod #StandFirm #ChristianLiving ... See MoreSee Less

The Brownland DevelopmentI wasn’t able to attend the recent presentation on the proposed Brownland development this past Monday. However, based on conversations with constituents, fellow elected officials, and my review of the presentation that was shared publicly, these are my initial takeaways.Watch the full meeting here:youtu.be/Puh2kFFCt_c?si=ao8gyyeI7mkcqQ6yAs a former hockey mom, I was genuinely saddened when A-Game closed its ice rink. I know how valuable these facilities are for families, athletes, and our community. I’d love to see more opportunities for kids to play and compete close to home.I also recognize that the location itself is still part of the discussion. Before deciding whether this is the right location for an ice facility, or whether public involvement makes sense at all, I believe we owe it to taxpayers to fully understand both the opportunities and the risks. That raises an important question…How do we build and sustain an ice rink that remains financially viable for decades without placing unnecessary risk on taxpayers? From what I’ve reviewed, the proposal contemplates public ownership of the ice facility through the Sports Authority while a private organization would operate it under a long-term agreement. Before making that commitment, I believe several questions deserve answers:* If this is a financially sound project, should it be able to attract private financing?* Beyond the projected revenues, what are the long-term operating expenses, maintenance costs, capital replacement needs, and debt obligations?* If revenues fall short, who ultimately bears the financial risk?* If publicly owned, would the facility become exempt from property taxes? If so, how would that affect local tax revenues?* How would profits, losses, and future capital improvements be independently monitored and audited?* Are there examples of similar public-private partnerships that have succeeded, or struggled, and what lessons can we learn from them? These questions aren’t meant to oppose hockey or the Brownland development itself. They are simply the kinds of questions I believe should be answered whenever public dollars or taxpayer-backed debt are being considered.I’ve always believed the role of government is to provide essential public services and create an environment where private enterprise can thrive, not to subsidize private, for-profit ventures. If this is a project our community truly wants and is financially viable, I believe private investment should be willing to finance it without shifting financial risk to taxpayers. What do you think? Would you support public financing for this type of project? What questions would you want answered before any public funds or taxpayer-backed debt are committed?I look forward to hearing your thoughts and learning from the discussion. If you were in attendance and I’ve misunderstood any aspect of the proposal, I welcome clarification. My goal is simply to better understand the project and encourage a thoughtful community discussion. ... See MoreSee Less

What if we brought this level of transparency and accountability to local government here in Tennessee?Florida recently passed legislation requiring local governments to make financial information easier for the public to access and understand. It also requires counties and cities to complete a public exercise showing how they could reduce their proposed budget by 10% without compromising essential public services before adopting a final budget.Whether or not we adopt the exact same approach, I believe it’s a conversation worth having. As taxpayers, we should be able to easily see:✔️ Where our tax dollars are going.✔️ How spending decisions are made.✔️ What opportunities exist to improve efficiency before asking families to pay more.Throughout my time on the County Commission, I consistently advocated for greater transparency from recording Committee meetings and improving public access to financial information, to encouraging regular reporting on our county’s financial health. Good government depends on an informed public.Transparency isn’t about pointing fingers. It’s about building trust.Accountability isn’t about politics. It’s about stewardship. Before government asks taxpayers for more, it should always demonstrate that it has carefully evaluated how to make the best use of every dollar already entrusted to it.I’d love to hear your thoughts. Should Tennessee consider similar transparency and accountability measures for local governments?#Transparency #Accountability #FiscalStewardship #GoodGovernance #TennesseeToday in Bradenton, I signed Senate Bill 4-F, which makes it harder for local governments to raise property tax burdens on Florida homeowners. This bill also allows a clear explanation on the Legislature’s property tax ballot initiative so that voters can make an informed decision in November, when Floridians will have the chance to vote for property tax relief and a pathway to elimination.I also signed HB 1329, the Local Government Financial Transparency and Accountability Act. Under this law, counties and cities will be required to put their financial information online in a format that Floridians can easily review. This legislation also requires local officials to conduct a budget-cutting exercise to reduce the tentative budget by 10 percent—without compromising essential public services—before final budget adoption. Both bills are important steps forward in our mission to deliver a more affordable state for homesteaded Florida residents. ...
